Main Street Elizabethton and the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce hosted The Downtown Post ribbon cutting on Wednesday, February 11, celebrating the grand opening of the new boutique-style micro hotel in the heart of Downtown Elizabethton.
Originally built in the late 1800s, the former Elizabethton Post Office has been thoughtfully renovated into 5 elevated short-term rental suites that seamlessly blend historic character with modern luxury. The project preserves the building’s rich history while introducing a unique lodging experience to the downtown district.
The Downtown Post is owned by Watauga Property Group, made up of two local families and longtime friends turned business partners. They take pride in their high-quality renovations and professional property management experience. At The Downtown Post, each suite is uniquely named after one of the owners’ children, adding a meaningful and personal touch to the space.
“We’re incredibly excited to open The Downtown Post and become part of the energy and momentum building in our downtown. This project is more than just a place to stay, it’s our way of investing in our hometown, supporting local businesses, and welcoming visitors to experience the community we’re proud to call home.”, says Kristen Cannon, co-owner of The Downtown Post and Watauga Property Group.
The Downtown Post offers guests secure, code-based access to the building and individual suites, convenient public parking nearby, and a centrally located Honor System Market stocked with snacks, beverages, and light breakfast items. Guests can also enhance their stay with optional add-ons such as breakfast and romance packages. Each suite includes a kitchenette complete with a fridge, microwave, and coffee pot, thereby encouraging guests to enjoy meals at nearby downtown restaurants.
“This is an incredible addition to our downtown district and truly exemplifies our tagline, Old Soul, New Stories,” said Main Street Elizabethton Director Courtney Bean. “The Downtown Posthonors our rich history while enhancing the growing downtown experience. It provides visitors with an elevated place to stay that keeps them connected to our local shops and restaurants, while also offering a unique staycation destination for our community to enjoy.”
