VIRTUAL Annual Lighting of the Fraser Fir
January 1, 1970 @ 12:00 am - November 21, 2020 @ 12:00 am
This event will be held virtually. The annual lighting of the Fraser Fir is a community event to ring in the holiday season at the historic Folsom House (UT Extension Office) in Downtown Elizabethton. The two-story clapboard house was owned by Major H. M. Folsom. The story goes that in the late 1860’s the Folsom family went to Roan Mountain and brought home Fraser Fir Saplings. These saplings were planted on each side of the home and the 78-foot tree standing today is the largest Fraser Fir in the State of Tennessee and Second largest in the Nation. It is the tallest decorated Fraser Fir in the world!
